Hesperia is also close to the freeway for an easy commute. The Mesa, located at the east end, is a popular area of reasonably priced Hesperia homes. Oak Hills is an area of more expensive homes in a rural setting close to the freeway at the top of the Cajon Pass. A popular leisure destination is Hesperia Lake Park, home of the annual Bluegrass Festival.

Apple Valley Homes are very popular but less convenient for a commute down the hill due to greater distances from the freeway. Apple Valley was named after a few apple trees that grew by the Mojave River, east of the river the land rises to form a mesa where many of the Apple Valley homes were built. Adelanto is conveniently located north west of Victorville, alongside Highway 395. In recent years many new homes have been built at the south end of the city and a new shopping center has recently opened. Minor league baseball team, the High Desert Mavericks play at Maverick Stadium.

The Victor Valley area of the High Desert is situated at the top of the Cajon pass, the major city is Victorville. Homes for sale in this area are attractive to people in the greater Los Angeles Basin because they are more reasonably priced.
In less than an hour you can drive to Big Bear Lake where all types of aquatic recreation are available or to Lake Arrowhead where you can ride the Arrowhead Queen paddle boat.
